CRANBOURNE Secondary College was a sea of yellow and black on Thursday as students released hundreds of balloons in memory of a a student who passed away earlier in the year.

Year 9 student Tom Cairney died as a result of a heart condition, and students organised the balloon release and free dress day to raise money for Cardiomyopathy Association of Australia, in line with the wishes of Tom’s family.

Students brought a gold coin to donate and were encouraged to wear footy colours to represent Tom’s passion for the game. “We wanted to make the family proud and support them in raising awareness,” SRC coordinator Varda Mala said.
